Education in Southwold
Southwold and the surrounding area have both state and independent options for educating children and young people.
Primary Schools
Southwold Primary School and Nursery
Found in Cumberland Road, this school has classes from Reception through to Year 6. The nursery caters for children aged 2 years and upwards, and has a dedicated Early Years playground. Children can join at the start of the term after their second birthday.
Reydon Primary School
This school is part of the Active Learning Trust and serves the Reydon area, teaching children from Reception to Year 6 and playing a strong part in the local community.
Secondary Schools
Saint Felix School is the only school in the immediate area which provides secondary education (see below). However there are several state school options a short distance from Southwold:
Pakefield High School
This modern high school, located just south of Lowestoft, opened in 2011 and has around 680 students between 11-16 on roll.
SET Beccles School
A secondary free school in the Suffolk market town of Beccles, with nearly 300 students on roll. It opened in 2012 and is part of the Seckford Foundation.
Sir John Leman High School and Sixth Form
A long established secondary school, also in Beccles, which includes a sixth form to provide further education options for young people between 16 and 18.
Thomas Mills High School and Sixth Form
An 11-18 high school with around 1,000 students, set in Framlingham, a historic town 20 miles to the south-west of Southwold.
Independent Schools
Saint Felix School
An independent co-educational school in Reydon that provides education for pupils from the ages of 2 to 19. It has places for both boarders and day students, and has many facilities for hire including a sports complex, theatre, hall and swimming pool.
