The Head That Bears
Darkly comic fairytale blends greed, death, cursed royalty, and absurd storytelling with gruesome humour throughout.
The Head That Bears is a darkly comic theatrical reimagining of Grimm-style folklore by Burnt Coffee Theatre Company. Set within a mysterious woodland glade, the story follows a strange girl discovering a golden crown coveted by three desperate fools. Attempting to frighten her into surrendering it, they invent bizarre tales involving cursed kings, sinister executioners, and eccentric servants. Meanwhile, unseen supernatural forces, including Death and a looming bear, observe events from the shadows. Originally winning the Minotaur Theatre Creative Writing Competition, the production combines absurd humour, graphic comedic violence, and gothic fantasy. Suitable for audiences aged twelve and above.
