The Electric Picture Palace
The original Picture Palace in York Road is no more, so in 2002 we built a tiny 70 seat Picture Palace to recreate the traditional experience of “going to the pictures” in a building designed like an Edwardian theatre.
We screen 80 films a year, from ancient to modern, across four seasons. Screenings are typically on Friday and Saturday evenings, with our Summer Season adding Tuesday and Thursday evening showings. The idea is to recreate the heyday of cinema-going with commissionaire, usherettes and a rising cinema organ. You have to be a member to attend, but holidaymakers are very welcome and may join for a season for just £3.
The cinema is also available to hire for private parties and is licensed for weddings.
